Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, for which I am required by law to report to the appropriate authorities.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. With or without such cooperation, I will take further appropriate measures to ensure their safety.

Regarding emails, texts, cellphones, and faxes: Confidentiality can be guarded but not guaranteed due to the possibility of third-party interception, so in general, electronic communications should be limited to discussions of logistical details and appointment times.
